Timeline of Boao Forum for Asia
In 1998, His Excellent (hereinafter referred to as H.E.) Fidel V.Ramos, former President of the Philippines, H. E. Morihiro Hosokawa, former Prime Minister of Japan put forward the idea of establishing an "Asian Forum".
On Feb 27, 2001, representatives from 26 countries attended the Ceremony in Boao, Hainan, China and declared the establishment of FBA and the adoption of The Declaration on the Boao Forum for Asia . H.E. Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China attended the forum, sent a address and presented a poem to the forum.
On April 11, 2002, after election, the council of FBA was established. H.E. Fidel V. Ramos, former President of the Philippines, was elected to be president, former Vice-minister of Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the People's Republic of China was elected to be Secretary-General.
From April 12, 2002 to April 13, 2002, the first Annual Conference Ceremony was held in Boao, Hainan, China, the general theme was "New Century, New Situation and New Task---Cooperation and Development of the Asian Economy", more than 1900 representatives from 48 countries and regions attended the conference. Prime Minister the People's Republic of China attended the forum and sent a address.
On Nov 18-19, 2002, BFA held the Boao Forum for Asia's Travel in Guilin, Guangxi, China.
On Jan 20, 2003, Long Yongtu, the Vice-minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the People's Republic of China was elected to be the Secretary-General on Tokyo Conference of BFA Council.
On Jan 24, H.E. Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China interviewed H.E. Fidel V. Ramos, former President of the Philippines, President of BFA Council and other main directors at Zhongnanhai.
On May 13-14, 2003, BFA held a international session "SARS and Asian Economy: Influence Evaluation and Policy Suggestion" in Beijing by the method of videoconference.
On July 3, BFA held a forum for SARS and Establishment of Informational Asia in Beijing by the method of videoconference.
On July 14-15, 2003, BFA held "International Travel Cooperation Conference under New Situation" in Hong Kong.
On Sep 8, 2003, BFA held a session "Asian Economic Integration and Regional Trade" in Beijing.
On Sep 22, 2003, International Conference Center of BFA was put into use, H.E. Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China superscripted for it.
On Nov 1, 2003, BFA held General Meeting in Boao, Hainan, China. The first formally Constitution and related documents were adopted at the meeting.
On Nov 2-3, 2003, BFA was held in Boao, Hainan, China with the theme "Asia Seeking for Win-win, Cooperation Promote Development", more than 1200 representatives from 30 countries and regions attended the conference, H. E Wen Jiabao, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China sent a address named "Seize the Opportunity, Meet the Challenges, make a great contribution to the participant of Win-win".
On April 22, 2004, the council conference of '2004 Annually Conference of BFA was held in Boao, Hainan, China.
On April 24-25 2004, '2004 Annually Conference of BFA was held in BFA International Conference Center with the theme "Asia Seeking for Win-win---- An Asia Open to the World", more than 1000 political, business and academic representatives from 35 countries and regions attended the conference, H.E. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China sent a address named "the Development of China, the Opportunity of Asia" at the opening ceremony.
The 2005 Annual Conference of Boao Asia Forum was held in Boao with an agenda quoted as Asia Striving for Win-win Situation --- the New Role of Asia on April 23~24 2005. The national politics consultation chairman Jia Qinglin delivered a purport speech entitled Promote Comprehensive Cooperation & Build A Harmonious and Prosperous Asia at the opening ceremony on April 23rd. Around 1200 politics and industrial & commercial circle representatives, experts and scholars from more than 40 regions and countries attended the said annual conference.
In 2006, the Annual Conference of Boao Asia Forum was held in Boao from April 21st and April 23rd. The conference agenda remained Asia Striving for Win-win Situation --- the New Role of Asia identifying last yearly conference. China's vice president Zeng Qinghong presented the opening ceremony and made the purport speech. He pointed out that to realize win-win situation in Asia and seize every development opportunity needs strong support from each Asian country's government and people. Therefore, he delivered 3 suggestions: the first, continue to tighten cooperation relationship. The second, coexist peacefully and respect and maintain regional diversity. The last, open to the world generously. At this annual conference, more than 850 representatives of politics, business and famous experts and scholars attended.
The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2007 was held on April 20-22, 2007 in Boao. Wu Bangguo, Chairman, Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, People's Republic of China, gave the speech of “creating a new Asia of peace cooperation and harmony.” at Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2007. Gloria Macapagal ARROYO, President, the Philippines, Shaukat AZIZ, Prime Minister , Pakistan, Fidel V. RAMOS, Chairman, Board of Directors, Boao Forum for Asia , Former President of the Philippines, Bob Hawke, Former Prime Minister of Australia, Sergy Terechenko, Former Prime Minister , Kazakhstan, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Bill Gates, Chairman, Microsoft Corporation and more than 1300 politicals, industry and commercial field elites, as well as media and journalists from a large scale of countries and regions present the 2007 BFA Annual Conference with the theme of Asia winning in Today's Global Economy - Innovation & Sustainable Development.
The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2007 was held on April 11-13, 2008 in Boao. The theme for the annual conference: "Green Asia: changes in achieving a win-win situation" Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China gave the speech of “Persist in reform and opening up promote win-win cooperation” at Boao Forum. Shaukat AZIZ, Prime Minister, Pakistan, Mongolian President Nambariin Enkhbayar, Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Jakaya Kikwete, the president of Tanzania, Chilean President Bachelet, Tonga King Tupou V, Swedish Prime Minister Reinfeldt, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Maximofu, Australian Prime Minister Lu Ke-wen, and, Mr Donald Tsang, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Ho Hou Hua, Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region, and the more than 1,700 politicians, business people, experts and scholars from different countries and regions attended the opening ceremony.
Leaders of various countries around the theme of this annual meeting "Green Asia: changes in achieving a win-win situation", jointly deal with climate change, and achieving sustainable development on views.
